Fin & Feather Enterprises -- Wingshooting
"Strictly speaking, the essence of sportive hunting is not raising the animal to the
level of man, but something much more spiritual than that: a conscious and almost
religious humbling of man, which limits his superiority and lowers him toward the animal.
Hunting submerges man deliberately in that formidable mystery and, therefore, contains
something of a religious rite and emotion in which homage is paid to what is divine,
transcendent in the laws of nature."
-- Jose Ortega y Gasset
Fin & Feather Enterprises is proud to present its Autumn Classic Wingshooting Adventures
for discerning sportsmen and women. Whether you enjoy walking the woods and fields for
flushed upland game or pass shooting waterfowl out of a waterfowl blind we have the trip
for you. We work over trained hunting retrievers and pointing dogs to maximize flush
counts in the most productive covers and nullify the loss of wounded birds. If you wish
to sample a variety of our services try mixing a morning Waterfowl or Grouse hunt with an
afternoon fly fishing trip on our Fin & Feather Fall Foliage Special in the most colorful
season New England has to offer.
Upland Bird Hunting
"The dog knows what is grouseward better than you do. You will do well to follow him closely,
reading from the cock of his ears the story the breeze is telling."
-- Aldo Leopold
There is no better way to spend a fall afternoon than hunting for "Old Ruff". "Paahtridge" or
Ruffed Grouse hunting is a classic New England tradition. Join us for one of our hunts
surrounded by the most spectacular fall foliage North America has to offer. Fin & Feather
Enterprises hunts over pointing Brittany Spaniels as well as our trusty hunting Labrador
retriever both bred at Kirby Mountain Sporting Dogs in E. Burke Vermont. There is no finer
upland experience than pursuing Ruffed grouse and Woodcock in the picturesque woodlots of
the Green Mountains over our working dogs. Come enjoy an afternoon with us and our dogs in
the productive upland bird covers of Vermont.
Waterfowl hunting
"There's a certain universality to the process of waiting for shooting light in the middle of
a duck marsh, a universality that transcends borders and dissolves conventional notions of
place and setting."
-- E. Donnall Thomas Jr.
We can think of no better place to watch the sun rise than in a duck blind. Vermont offers
some fine resident and migratory waterfowl hunting. Mallard, Black duck, Greenwing Teal,
and Wood duck abound on our lakes as do Canadian Geese, Goldeneye, and Scaup. Come and
join us in the blind on one of our duck and geese hunts. We maintain a camp and several
blinds on Lake Champlain as well as in Vermont's interior. Whether it is a weekend stay
or just a morning excursion we have the blind, accommodations, guide and dog for you. We
hunt over Labrador Retrievers trained by David Butler and Terry Johannson of Sugarwood
Kennels of Johnson Vermont.
